This is a review of a blog called The Review Blog started by Ravi Singh. Ravi made this blog in April this year and did not post till June 11 , I don’t know why may be any particular reason or time or whatever but after 11 June 2007 he started posting in his Review Blog at a regular pace with one or two blog posts daily. His topic varies from most of the subjects like Entertainment , Jokes , SEO, Adsense ,Traffic , Tips and Tricks and many more .He is currently using the theme from Wpdesigner.com and the theme name is Pride 3 Column.
When I visited this blog today the first thing that caught my eyes was the topic named as Karnataka – A snapshot , I also being an Indian decided to read this article to quench my thirst about my undiscovered site of Indian State Karnataka. I belong to Delhi so I never had a chance to visit South India despite that I have finished off my Studies and in the Job but tough luck for me. As I read the topic it seemed interesting to me and as it mentioned in the last continued in Next Article so I was upset this was the thing which I did notlike about this particular topic.
I had been online for almost 13 to 14 months now as I am in Job so I access internet from Office and rarely from home I visited this blog in July when I saw an advertisement on my friend’s Blog about a free Review of your Blog. At that time The Review Blog was small , may be 30- 40 posts or less and not so well designed as well.
The Thing which I liked about The Review Blog
- Domain Name and Title: The Review Blog is the title and Placid-mind.com is the domain which I think is easy to remember
- Header : Header does not contain any such thing like Ads and Images which could take a lots of time to load on a low speed connection.
- Money Makers : Ravi has mentioned several Money Making Programs on his Blog which makes it easy for newbie’s to get acquainted with money making programs.
- Competitions: As I read in one of his posts that Ravi is going to have competitions on the regular interval like this one as this was his firs competition so might not get more responses but still will get some of the bloggers to know him. Competitions can help make your blog active and get more readers to your blog.
What I did not like
- Not having a link to the About page in the main menu: Before doing a
review of The Review Blog I wanted to know more about the author but I could not find a link to an about page on the main menu and almost thought that the blog did not have an about page until I looked a bit lower on the sidebar. Also it would be good if Ravi linked his Blogging FAQ in main menu. - Having Feedcount displayed early: When I last checked, The Review Blog had only 15 RSS readers, so it might be a good idea if Ravi did not display the Feedburner Feedcount atleast until his blog has 500 RSS readers. Showing that a blog has low number of readers can prevent some visitors from subscribing to its feed. I know some may disagree with me here, but this is what I believe.
- Having forum on a new blog: The Review Blog is only about 3 months
old and has a forum already? The forum can be handy to continue the discussion from the blog or for its readers to start discussions on topics they like, but I doubt the forum will be active until the blog has good number of loyal readers. - AdSense: Ravi has placed 3 AdSense ad units on his blog. It is present in the post at the right hand side of the posts on main page and individual pages as well , Ravi also uses Adbrite to server ads in footer as well but I don’t think they are relevent so he should get them removed. And most of all he must be using a fixed banner so that he might be able to earn morethan Adsense and Adbrite alone by placing a fixed banner on the sidebar (125×125), text links and maybe even a rotating top banner (468×60) just like most of the professional bloggers do.
- More tag: Ravi does not use more tags and hence his posts can be read entirely from the homepage. Using more tags helps you to increase your blog’s pageviews and prevent content duplication.
- Archives: Ravi has displayed his monthly archives on his blog’s sidebar. This alone is enough to let visitors know that the blog is a new one, so it might be a good idea to remove it from the sidebar atleast. Also using the CrazyEgg service many bloggers have found that visitors mostly do not click the monthly archive links which is why professional bloggers removed it from their blogs sidebar. All the thing which archives did was clutter their sidebar.
- MyBlogLog Widget: While readers may like seeing their avatars on blogs
they visit, the MyBlogLog widget can increase the page load time which is why I
removed it from this blog. - Writing Mistakes and Errors: Last thing which I would like to mention about Ravi’s Blog is that he has made several mistakes in writing off the articles in some place without spell checking them and even did not proofread them . At least he should have done them to let readers know that he is well versed in English . By the way Ravi please do not consider this as negative comment but still you should consider this as a positive argument where in you could increase your Blog’s Popularity by using correct grammar and writing Skills.
Final Thoughts
The Review Blog is a daily updated blog with lots of good quality content. I was not able to read most of the older posts of the blog as I did not have enough time and it is night here in India. Anyways I enjoyed reading the recent posts from the blog’s full
feed and I am sure it will help you take your blog to the next level with its wonderful tips. Even I subscribed to his feeds so it might be a great idea for you to subscribe to his RSS feeds as well to get updates via RSS only.
Ok Ok . Last thing which Ravi Mentioned in the contest Rules is to include a link to
contest page and his Review blog . So I think this might be the last condition of fulfilling his Review Contest as well. Now waiting for 16th or 17th August when the Result will be announced by Ravi on his Blog.
